 TIPS ON CHOOSING THE RIGHT TRAVEL AGENCY
"Rights And Responsibilities of Consumers"



OBJECTIVES

1. To ensure the public obtain tourism package services from tourism enterprises that are registered and licensed by the Ministry.

2. To ensure the rights of the public as consumers are protected.

3. To uphold the tourism industry through ethical business practices and healthy competition.




Tour Package Information That You Need To Know !

1. Maximum deposit to be paid to the tour agency is 25% of the package price.

2. Package price to be paid is as per advertised. Price must includes excurisons, return air tickets, other transportation costs, hotel costs, meal and whatever applicable taxes.

3. Hotel accomodation is based on single supplement, twin sharing basis or triple sharing basis.

Items NOT Included in The Package Price.

1. Laundry.

2. Food and Beverages not on regular menu.

3. Optional Excursions.

4. All items of  personal nature.

5. Porterage at airport and hotels.


Cancellation of Reservation by Tour Member.

Prior to signing of any reservation document, tour members are advised to examine and ensure that the documents contain relevant information about the tour, any cancellation fees that may apply as well s the term and conditions for that fees to be charged [as stated in Rule 6(1)(i)(i) Tourism Industry Rules (Control of Tourism Business And Ticketing Agency) 1991]

Term and Conditions For Cancellation of Reservation

1. Free Independent Travellers

Tour members have the right to cancel their bookings that they have made subject to the following condition:

a) Cancellation of booking must made in writing to avoid any misunderstanding.
b) If the company receives notice to cancel 30 days or more before the date of departure, a minimum administrative fee of RM50.00 or 10% of the tour deposit (whichever is lower) will be levied.

c) If the notice of cancellation is received 29 days or less before the departure date, the following charges will be apply:

       
* 15 - 29 working days before the departure date            :  50% of Tour Deposit.
* 08 - 14 working days before the departure date            :  20% of Tour Deposit.
* 03 - 07 working days before the departure date            :  40% of Tour Deposit.
* 02 working days before the departure date                   : 100% of Tour Deposit.


2. Group Tour


Tour members have the right to cancel their bookings that they have made subject to the following condition:

a) Cancellation of booking must made in writing to avoid any misunderstanding.
b) If the company receives notice to cancel 45 days or more before the date of departure, a minimum administrative fee of RM30.00 or 2% of the tour fare (whichever is higher) will be levied.

c) If the notice of cancellation is received 44 days or less before the departure date, the following charges will be apply:

      
* 22 - 44 working days before the departure date            :  Forfeiture of Tour Deposit.
* 05 - 21 working days before the departure date            :  35% of Tour Deposit.
* 08 - 14 working days before the departure date            :  50% of Tour Deposit.
* 03 - 07 working days before the departure date            :  75% of Tour Deposit.
* 02 working days before the depature date                     :  100% of Tour Deposit.


Consequences of Engaging UNLICENSED Tour Agencies

NO compensation should the arranged package be cancelled by the tour company without prior notice or the company failed to adhere to the terms and conditions of the package.

NO insurance coverage.

NO covered by TOURISM INDUSTRY ACT 1992

Tourism Enterprise License

1. Tourism enterprise license issue by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia divided into three (3) areas:

a) Inbound Tour Operating Business.
b) Outbound Tour Operating Business.
c) Travel & Ticketing Agency

2. A licensed travel agency possess a license number that shall be displayed at all times.

Example of Licensed Number  : No Lesen KPK/LN/9103

3. It is compulsory for each licensed tourism agency to conspicuously display their license certificate and sticker at its business premise.
